How often do you find your date has herpes ?

With all this talk of Herpes have you encountered may dates when this bomb is dropped ?

It’s indicated that 1 in 4 ish have it but that doesn’t seem accurate. If that was the case wouldn’t we have lots of friends with it etc…

This question is for both guys/girls.

    1 in 10 is common, i think

    Since herpes is related to the chicken pox virus, and can be passed when no apparent symptoms are present, I’d say Sherlock Holmes would have his hands full! A doctor friend told me that many come into the office with very painful herpes that are not on the face, and got them from someone who didn’t realize that herpes can be easily passed, when all supposedly looks clear and healthy. Be careful. Have a healthy and happy leap year!

    Actually, no one I have dated has ever had an STD or herpes so I don’t know. I would guess that the “1 in 4″ statistic isn’t completely accurate, too. Although a lot more people who do have herpes do not know it.

    Maybe your friends do have it and are too embarrassed to tell you. Or they think it is none of your business!!

    And maybe your dates have it but do not know about it. Have you been checked lately?

    Many out there are too afraid to tell. Especially on a first or second date. Often, they end the relationship before they ever have to tell, ie. before it reaches the intimacy level.

    Then you have those who are in denial. They know they have it but will not tell you. You won’t know till you actually end up with it. Although, you could get it and not show signs.

    Many do not know they have it. Either they have never had an outbreak or their outbreak was so mild that they did not know what it was and thought it was something else.

    Because of the ‘stigma’ attached to having an STD, your friends are not going to share this with you either.

    I work with a Help group and a social group. I know first hand how scared people are of telling.

    Statistics are 1 in 4 have genital herpes, however 80% of them do not know they have it!!

    I personally have genital herpes and am very open about it. I have met men on regular dating sites that have it. I had it in my profile, they did not.

    As far as its prevalance, I will put it this way . . . I moved to Charlotte 3 years ago and started an online, local support group for HSV1, HSV2, and HPV. We now have over 825 members who have found us through the grapevine.

    Yes, 1 in 4 women have it and 1 in 5 men. (This is the CDC stat for Herpes Simplex 2, the stat for Herpes Simplex 1 is MUCH higher). The part that you are missing is that about 80-90% of the people who have Herpes DO NOT KNOW they have it. Unfortunately, because of the stigma attached to Herpes, some people choose to not disclose they have it even if they know.

    When you get a “complete” STD test, it does not include tests for HSV1, HSV2, or HPV (another one a concerned parent should read up on). Some people (like me) wou8ld have never known they had Herpes unless they specifically request the blood test.

    Herpes 101 – Herpes can be transmitted with or without symptoms, while the infected person is on suppression medication, through oral sex (type 1 and type 2 can cross infect), and even when having sex with a condom. It currently has no cure and is transmitted through skin to skin contact, not sexual fluids like most other STDs.

    You do have lots of friends with it. They just never tell people. Most people who have it never tell.

    I have it and have told several of my friends, and know four other women with it. No one ever would have told me if I hadn’t told them first.

    The first thing everyone said to me when I told them was ‘jst keep it to yourself and never tell anyone, pretend it never happened’.

    I wouldn’t tell casual dates I had herpes. Just if I had known them long enough and trusted them.

    And for all of you who will judge me for that, I have genital hsv-1. The same type of herpes all of you who have ever had a cold sore have on your mouth, only much less infectious.

    The other stat to remember is that only 1 in 4 or 5 people who are infected KNOW they are infected. Most don’t get symptoms, those that get mild ones mistake them for something else or ignore them because they don’t want to know they have herpes.

    And the previous answer is right, people all think they don’t have it because they have had a standard std screen and it comes back clean, and are completely unaware that they haven’t been screened for herpes.
