Can I have two false negative HSV2 tests?

I recently had unprotected sex and was infected with and treated for gonorrhea. That was educational but seems to be behind me at this point. I am concerned, however, about developing genital herpes and would like some educated opinions. From what I have read, HSV-2 has an incubation period of 2-20 days during which time I may or may not develop symptoms but it will become present in a blood screening.

I have been tested twice since the incident (trying to play nice) and they both came back negative. One was at 11 days with the other being at 25 days afterwards. Is it possible to have two false negatives and/or to not have developed enough to affect the test results or could I be in the clear, so to speak?

I appreciate any informative responses.
Thanks all for the responses so far. I was brutally honest with my Dr. about the whole thing and was told that both tests were a “full screen”. Both times they took urine, drew blood and swabbed the inside of my penis but I don’t know which sample was for which test.

    ok.. i have herpes first of all, lets just b open and honest here…. from the time i had sex till my first breakout was 10 days……that is average. now u have been tested twice since the incident up to 25 days afterwards. im sure u r ok…..now if u feel as though there may have been a problem with the girl u were with u have every right to invite her along for a little doctors visit…. if she wont go, be weary..if she wil, ask for paperwork, however if she is negative, dont expect to hear from her again, but on the other hand u may b safe…..if she is positive for anything than u will kno wat to get screened for..good luck p.s. two negative results is a good thing. dont question it.

    IT IS POSSIBLE BUT IF YOU HAVENT HAD ANY OUTBREAKS YOU HAVE NOTHING TO REALLY WORRY ABOUT RIGHT NOW BUT ITS OKAY TO BE SURE AND GET TESTED EVERY FEW MONTHS OR WHEN EVER YOU HAVE A NEW PARTNER

    Hey, if you aren’t experiencing any symptoms you really shouldn’t waste your time thinking about it. How were you tested for HSV? If it was a blood test then in this time frame it is possible to get false negatives. It can take up to 3 months for antibodies to develop in the blood and show up in a blood test. The person testing you should have told you this unless you weren’t completely honest with them. You are probably just getting worked up for no reason. Relax and if you experience any symptoms go into the doctor.

    I have herpes so when I took the blood test, it tested negative. I didn’t take it again so I don’t know whether you can test negative again. The only way to know for sure is the swab the inside which is what the doctor did for me. That is called culture. If the culture tested positive, then you have it. Usually the culture one is the most accurate.

    OK genital herpes doesn’t develop from having gonorrhea, it’s a separate viral and permanent disease. Also if your partner didn’t have an out break at the time you had sex you would be less likely to contract HSV2 from them. HSV2 normally has an incubation period of about 2-30 days but it can take longer then that to show up in a blood test because herpes antibodies can take time to develop. You may or may not develop any symptoms even if you did contract herpes. Herpes affects every one that gets infected with it differently. If you test too early then you can get false negatives because the antibodies would be too low to show the doctor any thing. If your worried about it get re-tested in 4-6 months, there should be enough antibodies by then in your system to give you some results.
