Information on HSV1 I’m so confused?

Over a month ago I had had sex with a guy and he gave me oral as well. A few days after I was in a lot of pain. At first I thought it was just from rough sex, but then a sore appeared and worsened by day. I ended up having a fever and I was in serious pain so I went to the E.R. and the doctor took a look and said it was herpes.
After letting the guy know he ended up gettig tested and was positive for HSV1 in the mouth. I guess it transfered it from his mouth to my… underwear region. he proceded to yell at me and tell me to get over it and that over half of adults have some sort of hsv1 and it wasn’t a big deal.
I researched it and it says that hsv1 is cold sores? but what I had seemed a lot worse than that.

Will someone please explain all of this.

    The herpes family is a big one, it includes the virus that causes chicken pox as well as the cousin that causes the infamous genital warts. For the record, HSV Type 1 is mostly associated with oral sores- commonly called cold sores. That variation does prefer the mouth as a rule, but it can infect the genital region. Genital herpes is most often caused by HSV Type 2, it prefers the genital area but it can and does infect the mouth as well sometimes. You can’t diagnose types by looking either. You can only diagnose by taking a culture of an active sore, or by doing a blood test to check for antibodies. Herpes outbreaks don’t usually come with a fever, and there are other things that can cause painful sores in that area. And although the fellow was not very nice about it, the fact is that yes, a majority of the human population is infected with HSV Type 1 by the time we start school. We usually get it from other family members. And it’s not really a big deal, although I can certainly understand why you would be upset and he should have been a bit more sensitive as well. The thing you need to do is see your doctor and ask to be antibody tested to determine if you even have herpes, and if so, what type you have. If it shows HSV Type 1, that’s pretty normal. You may well have already had it as well, and that sore could be something else. If you have another outbreak, the best thing is to have that sore cultured to see what it is. If you have repeated outbreaks, there are medications called retrovirals that can help prevent them. And try to relax about it all. Herpes is a democratic disease, you are not a herpes “leper”, and it’s not the end of life. But given the so sensitive reaction of this fellow, you might want to consider a different partner.

    Let’s try to simplify for you.

    There are two TYPES of herpes that are transmitted via sex: HSV-1 (oral herpes/cold sores) and HSV-2 (genital herpes). BOTH can be treated with antiviral medications to help reduce outbreaks, but BOTH are incurable and you will have the virus for the rest of your life and can spread it to others, even when no sores are present.

    HSV-1 (cold sores) is found in 80% of the people in the US, 56% of teens. Unfortunately, HSV-1 can be passed to the genitals via oral sex. In fact, oral sex/HSV-1 is now the source of the largest number of genital herpes cases diagnosed each year among teens. While it AFFECTS the genitals–it is NOT genital herpes, which is another type.

    HSV-2 (genital herpes) is a different “type” of herpes. It prefers the genitals and RARELY transmits to the mouth.

    Under the microscope, these “types” of herpes are different. If you take a herpes test, you may test positive for HSV-1–but the test will NOT tell you where you are infected–in the mouth or in the genitals. Only a viral swab, taken 24-48 hours of an outbreak, can tell if genital sores are actually HSV-1or HSV-2. If you test positive for HSV-2 via a blood test, then it is going to be in the genitals.

    While oral herpes “isn’t a big deal” if you have it on your mouth, it can present severe problems for women who contract it, since lesions can occur on the cervix and vaginal walls. Outbreaks can be as severe as HSV-2 (some requiring emergency treatment). It can also lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. Further, herpes has to be taken into account if you ever become pregnant, because an outbreak during birth can affect a child or require a cesarean.

    Bottom line, oral herpes may NOT be a big deal for your male friend–but it IS for you, because it is now infecting your genitals and is going to require special precautions to prevent you from spreading it to future partners. He should be ashamed for being so cruel to you!

    You need to talk to the doctor about antiviral medications and what you need to do going forward.

    Yes that is possible, I contracted herpes through having oral sex with my boy friend while he had a cold sore on his mouth. Cold sores are caused by HSV1, they can be passed from the mouth to the genitals while you have oral sex with some one that has cold sores and there doesn’t always need to be a break out for it to be passed on but it’s less likely to happen while there isn’t a break out.
    Your initial out break is usually the worst, the severity should be lessened over time. Cold sores down stairs can cause a little more pain then cold sores on the mouth, I suppose because the genitals are a little more sensitive. Break outs can also have some thing to do with your immune system, if it’s stronger then you shouldn’t have as many symptoms or big classic break outs as some one with a weakened immune system. But any thing that lowers your immune system (like being run down by stress) can trigger a break out.

    Hey, I know how tough it can be to deal with this problem. For years I searched for a way to reduce the duration outbreaks, considering there isn’t a cure, and to my surprise I was unsuccessful . Even the high price prescriptons were useless.

    However, 6 months ago, I accidentally came across a site that offer a natural solution to my problem, and to make a long story short it worked. So, maybe this can work for you.
