Herpes. HSV1 & 2. WTF?

I posted a question earlier about the possibility of being infected with oral or genital herpes via sex practice. Well i got an answer directing me to go -> http://www.herpes.com/hsv1-2.html . It was a damm good answer and a great site if you’re worried about herpes or have it. But it left me with more questions (should it read it twice or 3x’s before posting this question) than a better understanding of herpes. While i was reading i was getting confused about the virus. They would talk about HSV1 & 2. HSV 1 being oral and HSV 2 being “down there”. But its also vice versa. You can have oral herpes on you genital area and have genital herpes around you mouth. ? The site i read said herpes is pretty much common throughout people. Some people have antibodies in their system at a very young age b/c it was passed by a relative that kiss you when you where young.

So is there HSV1a & HSV1b / HSV2a & HSV2b? And i guess if you have HSV2 (genital) it is less likely to get HSV1 (oral) but possible. But having HSV1 the risk of getting HSV2 is more likely. Can someone please put this “Barney style” for me? And are cold sores/ulcers a outbreak of herpes?

    rite, HSV-1 is cold sores that appear in the mouth and sometimes body. they are not a sexual infection but can appear on the genitals if someone has a cold sore and gives oral sex to anther person with an open wound (the infection will get inside)
    HSV-2 is the sexual version. it is sores on the genital area and is passed on during sexual contact. a person could get the HSV-2 virus in their mouth if they give oral sex and come in contact with a sore but it is very unlikely.
    both HSV-1 and HSV-2 are nearly exactly the same, just develop in different areas. thats how they can be passed on to both parts of the body, its kind of unlikely for this to happen though.
    if you have sores on your genitals it will be the HSV-2 strain, go to your gp or local G.U.M clinic to get checked out.

    Yes you can have HSV1 passed to your genitals or HSV2 passed to your mouth. They do have sites of preference but they can be passed to opposite locations.
    Most people with cold sores get them when they are children. They are commonly passed by relatives or friends with cold sores giving kisses to them or being kissed, with out knowing that cold sores are contagious. Cold sores are very common to have 50-90 percent of the world has them. Half of those people don’t show symptoms or have little to no out breaks.
    There is no HSV1 A / B same with HSV2 it all gets lumped into oral herpes or genital herpes depending on where you have it. If you have HSV1 you can still contract HSV2 on either your mouth or genitals.
    I don’t believe that antibodies give you immunity to getting the second type again because I have HSV1 on my mouth and down stairs. HSV1 is more commonly passed to the genitals. HSV2 is less common to have on the mouth. Then I contracted HSV2 down stairs it all came from my boy friend. Also herpes is herpes, there is no good or bad type to have. Any one with herpes can get rejected or treated badly because there is such a negative stigma out there against it.
    Yes cold sores are caused by oral herpes, but many people get offended when you call cold sores oral herpes. I like to think that cold sores is just a nicer name to call oral herpes.
