CONFUSED & SCARED to death, can this positive HSV2 test be true?

Ok, so here is the break down…
First of all i apologize for the ‘personal explicit’ details, but i’m not going to beat around the bush because i have to know!
I am NOT permissques and have been very selective and careful about my sexual partners. That is something sacred that shouldn’t be thrown around. With these long term relationships I’ve been protected and careful… but i just got a call from my doctor saying im HSV2 positive?? How can this be?!
I’ve NEVER had any sympoms or signs of HSV2. I went to the doctor to get a regular ‘girly check-up’ and the test results came back +HSV2!
Here is where im EXTREMLY confused…
My boyfriend and i have been together for about 7 months, there have been times where we haven’t been protected..opssie..
but my BF had to get all these test done for Gov. paper work. He got his test results back and tested negative on all these tests:
-Tuberculosis (TB)
-Syphilis
-Gonorrhea
-Mental Defect
-Chancroid
-Lymphogranuloma Venerum
-Granuloma Inguinal
-USCIS Approved Immunitization

Is it possible that my boyfriend can test NEGATIVE on all these test because the HSV2 virus doesnt show up on them??? Are any of these test STD test that are just broad and if he did have it, it would show up??

Please help yall…i dont understand.. :’(

The sad thing is i think your right… I think i do have it. :’( I know you say it’s not the end of the world but im just sooo sad. This means i cant deliver a baby the way i would normally want to when down the road i do want to be a mom…:( Id have to have a C-section…which that’s fine i guess i mean at least id be a mommy…Im afraid its going to get worse.. and i’ve looked up this medication and its expensive… It says Ultra violet rays from the sun can reacctivate it.. there goes my relaxing days in the sun…:’( i just dont understand why this is happening…. Do you think its a possibility that i got it from my BF and it just didnt show up on his tests? That he has no signs but it a carrier??…. I wish this wasnt happening.

    Unfortunately, it sounds like it’s positive. If you still have doubts, there is no harm asking your doctor to do another test to confirm the results. However, there are people with Herpes virus that may never exhibit any signs or symptoms, such as yourself. It’s not the end of the world if you are positive. There are antiviral drugs that you can take so that you won’t get breakouts or if you do get a breakout, it can be controlled quickly. Meanwhile, use protection at all times from now on!

    Unfortunately, HSV2 is a “silent” disease meaning that it can lie dormant in your system for many years, not producing any symptoms, yet be passed on to others without you knowing. And in general when you get your pap(girly test) the Dr only test for chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea. Most of the time you have to ask for a herpes test, unless you have a lesion or sore at the time of the exam. Here’s some info on genital herpes:

    I know you’re going though a lot right now being forced to deal with this, but it’s going to get better and you’re going to learn to deal with it. Just try to reduce the stress in your life as this can cause outbreaks and if necessary, take meds to control recurrent outbreaks. Hope this helps!

    he tested negative for everything acept herpes, they didn’t test for that as u listed everything that was tested for. they don’t include a test for herpes that is a seperate one that u have to ask for. if they didn’t test for herpes then they probably didn’t run one to begin with. the government doesn’t have to test for herpes.
    there are people out there that are called carriers who have very mild or little signs of herpes, they are called carriers.
    it doesn’t matter how selective u are with your partners stds can sneak by without having visable symptoms specially if sex was not protected between u.
    those tests have nothing to do with herpes so the chances of herpes showing up on one of those are none.
    if u were posative when tested its most likely that u do have it. the things your bf was tested for has nothing to do with herpes, that is a seperate test that needs to be done. u have no idea how many times i wished i didn’t get herpes from my bf who didn’t know that he had them.

    Just because you have HSV does NOT mean you have to have a C-Section. The only time you would have to is if you have an ACTIVE infection at the time of your delivery. But if you have never had an outbreak, you are probably fine. If you are really worried about it, you can go on an antiviral before you deliver.

    If a Dr. automatically signs you up for a section, GET ANOTHER DOCTOR!!!

    First, let me say how sorry I am for your diagnosis. I remember when I was first diagnosed with genital herpes. I was frightened and angry and confused and ashamed – and sure that no one (other than my current BF) would ever love me. Now, it’s 10+ years later, I’ve had several lovers, all of whom knew about my herpes and none of them rejected me or caught herpes. I get perhaps 1 outbreak per year, and I just never think about it – except when I’m answering questions on Y!A.

    Could you be HSV2+? Yes. It sounds like you are. Many people with HSV2 have it for years without knowing because their symptoms are so mild. Unless your BF has been tested specifically for HSV2, then you don’t know if he has it. You need to test for each disease specifically. A test for “mental defect” or TB won’t tell you anything about herpes. Sorry.

    You may not have caught it from him. You may have had it for years, having caught it from a previous lover. In fact, you need to start being careful so that you don’t give it to him.

    The good news – it is not fatal. It doesn’t lead to cancer (or any other bad diseases). It can be well controlled, and with antiviral meds, and no sex during outbreaks, your chance of spreading it is less than 1% per year. Heck, without antivirals, but with no sex during outbreaks the chances are still only 2% per year.

    And all the antiviral drugs work pretty much the same – even though some (like Zovirax) are priced much cheaper than others (like Valtrex).

    I know how difficult this diagnosis is. Emotionally, its really really rough. I’d suggest that you learn as much as you can about herpes – I found that the more I learned, the more I discovered that the disease really isn’t that bad. I’d also suggest that you let your BF and close, non-judgemental friends give you the emotional support you need.

    i, like you was very careful with my relationships. me and my boyfriend always used protection, i caught hsv2 long b4 we even thought about no protection. i caught it from him, from a coldsore, as coldsores are hsv1 which can cause hsv2 (which is what i’ve got) its alot to deal with, as i had friends who were less safe and careful but yet they were fine, i found it deeply unfair that i caught something from a long term boyfriend despite us being so careful. to me it sounds like your looking at the boyfriend so you have someone to blame. if he tested negative then it wasn’t his fault. that is something you will have to accept. i didn’t deal very well, as i suffer from depression and anxiety, as hsv2 is made worse and more repetetive by the way a person feels. i was upset i had hsv2 but crying only made them more often which made me feel even worse. i felt like my life was over, atleast twice a month i would have symptoms, and as mine were more likely to be in my throat i couldnt always tell if i was contagious so sometimes i couldnt even kiss my parents goodnight or something. i caught hsv2 after 6months with my boyfriend, he dealt with it just as badly as i did. which definately didn’t help me. but after a few months, i just had to accept that i’d have this for the rest of my life. i never wanted kids, i always thought of adopting anyway, so the kids issue never really bothered me. i was more upset that every partner i have after my current one (if we ever split up) i’d have to tell them, and my biggest worry was no one will ever want to be with someone with an incurable std. but people are right. IT IS NOT THE END OF THE WORLD. i thought it was, i didn’t see any future, i hated my life and myself. but its not that bad, you’ve just got to learn to accept it and move on. it isn’t all bad, just make sure your careful in future, and try not to worry or get run down. or your symptoms and sores will come back. in the grand scheme of things hsv2 isn’t going to stop you leading the life you had planned before you got it. is it?

    I’m sorry for what you are going through but please know this is not the end of the world. Chances are your boyfriend already has herpes but has NEVER been tested for it. I would have him go out and get tested right away. The test for herpes is NOT given in a normal std screening.

    There is NO reason you can’t have children the natural way. Statistics show passing on herpes from childbirth is low and the thing to look out for are active lesions at the time of birth. I have two beautiful children and no complications due to herpes.

    Please educate yourself and your boyfriend on herpes. It is more common than most people think. Again, I recommend that you have him get tested for herpes asap so you know whether to take extra precautions during sex.
