can hsv1 turn into hsv2?

I had cold sores all the time .Two years ago my boyfriends started getting outbreaks on his penis ,I didn’t get one on me until six months after his first appeared.He blamed me ,I blamed him and every website i go to to get information doesn’t give a straight answer i just want to know …did me having a cold sore and giving oral on him give us both genital herpes .i have been diagnosed i have it for sure.

    HSV 1 and 2 are two separate viruses, they cannot turn into each other. They can BOTH infect you ORALLY OR GENITALLY So, yes, you probably gave him HSV-1. When you have HSV-1 genitally, it usually does not produce outbreaks over and over again, like HSV-2, but it depends on the person’s immune status. He should be checked for antibodies to each virus, to make sure of which one he has.

    HSV-1 and HSV-2 are two separate but very similar viruses. Both can infect both the oral and genital area. One cannot become the other. I am guessing your have genital herpes? Is it type 1? If so, the risk of passing GHSV-1 to the genital area of another is low. It is far from impossible, but it is far more common to pass OHSV-1 to the genital area.

    If you have GHSV-2 then it is more likely to be passed from one genital area to another genital area. It is not very common to have HSV-2 in the oral area.
