Told my boyfriend that I have herpes HSV2?

-I am 23 years old
-I have been dating my boyfriend for 7 months
-We don’t always use a condom
-I have been taking Valtrex 500mg everyday for 5 years
-I have had herpes for 5 years
-I have never had an outbreak OR symptom (its only shown up in blood tests)
-We are both VERY healthy, low stress, balanced diet, exercise, very clean hygiene

Ok so I am very disappointed in myself that I had not told him sooner….
I always assumed none of the guys I’ve slept with would be around very long, and Ive always used condoms and Valtrex in past hookups. So i never told anyone. No past guys have ever gotten it from me.
But….. This guy is for real. We are very much in love and talk about the future.
He is scared that he might get it one day. He is sad that I didnt tell him sooner. He is so emotionally invested in me and now i just told him this, he is confused…. :(

BASED ON WHATS GOING ON, HOW PROBABLE IS IT FOR HIM TO CATCH IT FROM ME WHEN WE DONT USE CONDOMS…..
and any other advice is appreciated.

    It’s very unlikely that he’ll get it. Have you been tested for it lately? Your body might have cleared itself of the herpes, actually. In any case, getting it is no big deal usually. They made this huge deal about it when it originally came to light, but it’s actually for the most part pretty minor. It doesn’t speak well of you, though that you didnt’ tell him and had sex w/o condoms. I can understand if he has trouble trusting you.

    As you probably know, there is no cure for herpes. In most cases it will not be transferred unless the affected partner has an “outbreak”. However, in your case you state that you have never had outbreak signs. I probably also don’t have to mention to you that you don’t have to have an “outbreak” of symtoms to transfer the disease. If yours is a long-time relationship meant for the future your partner will get the herpes in time. At least you had the resolve to be up front with him. I applaud you for that. Keep taking your medicine and keep up your good hygentic habits.

    Well, STD is very common nowadays. you should tell him at the beginning, but you didn’t. But it’s not you to blame, because everybody has this thought when they have STDs. Anyway, you had told him in the end, I believe he will consider it very correctly and practically.

    We all make mistakes hun but at least you told him, which to me means that you care a lot for him so may be he will stick around. Using Valtrex and condoms regularly can help reduce your partners chances of contracting herpes to less then 5 percent per year. But you can’t be sure if no one has ever gotten it from you, as some people can contract herpes and not show very many symptoms of it.
    He sounds like a good guy. If he really loves you he would still want to be with you, keep talking to him ask him what is going on in his head and how he is feeling about all of this. Try not to jump to conclusions but give him some time to think if he needs to.
