If you and your partner both have HSV2, can you have sex during an outbreak?

Pleeeeeeease only people who know what they’re talking about, because if you give misinformation, it could be your fault we get worse.

    1 not only is it repulsive to even have sex during an outbreak but two it could possibly exacerbate the infection even more.

    I think the question has been addressed REALLY well in a previous Yahoo Answers post–so I’m including that source. Also including the link they recommended–and I think it really will take away your reservations!

    Just make sure that you both actually have HSV-2 (genital herpes). If one partner is actually infected with HSV-1 (oral herpes/cold sores) of the genitals from oral sex, then you CAN acquire that new viral infection.

    Also, be aware that sex often will cause an outbreak to flare–and you really should avoid sex when having an outbreak because it can be extremely painful and prolong healing.

    Otherwise, you’re just fine!

    I suppose you could because you both have the same thing, you’re not likely to get reinfected. It also depends on how much pain the break outs cause and if it’s increased when you do have sex. The break out could get worse, because having intercourse or oral sex may spread the blisters around down stairs. Out breaks can be painful and having sex when you have one could put you in more pain.
    It’s really best to avoid having sex if any of you does get a break out and get tested to make sure you both have or don’t have HSV.
    My boy friend and I both have it but it’s too painful for me to have sex when I get a break out. So I tell him I have a break out if I get one and we try to avoid sex until it’s over. All I can say is try it and see how it feels, don’t do it if it’s causing you more pain.
