Whats the risk in contracting HSV2 from your partner who is on Valtrex?

Ok so this girl i’ve been dating for a while now told me that she has HSV2 and that she was on Valtrex. I’m just wondering what are the risks of me getting it if she is on valtrex and I use a condom?

I’d like some serious information please, not just advice telling me to leave, she’s really nice and aside from the HSV2, perfect. ha!

    Bud…if she didn’t tell you that upfront I would head for the hills. You can get it even if she’s not showing…at the very least you should wrap it up every time.

    Yeah really don’t want to contract something from someone you’re not going to marry and even then what does it tell you about her decision making process?

    You may have been infected by HSV2, get tested first. But I believe this chance is slim. Good luck to you!

    Valtrex is actually supposed to reduce your risk of contracting herpes from your partner by less then 5 percent, if it’s taken regularly. But it doesn’t completely eliminate her risks of passing it on. It can suppress her out breaks and it can reduce her chances of viral shedding herpes onto you. Herpes can be spread with out having symptoms which is what viral shedding is.
    If you use a condom and she is taking Valtrex and you are having sex when she has no signs of an out break you actually only have a very small chance of getting herpes. She should also get to know her symptoms and be honest enough with you to let you know if she feels an out break coming so you can abstain from having sex.
    Some people accept the risk of possibly getting an std to be with some one they love. If you don’t want to take the risk then don’t get involved with her. At least she told you before you want to have sex, which tells you she does care about you. Some people like to get to know some one before they give them that news because a lot of people tend to judge and reject too quickly.

    I think it is so good that she told you up front, because a lot of people don’t and that is the reason it’s spreading. You can contract the virus really at anytime. But if she is on medication and depending on how many outbreaks she has, it is always a possibility. But if you really like this girl, and apparently she is honest with you, cause trust me that is not easy to tell a person you have genital herpes. I think she is a keeper personally.
    I have had genital herpes for almost 8 years. I have not passed to it on to my partner of 5 years. I was honest with him. I am not on any medication and haven’t been for 4years. I have a 3 year old daughter that I had natural. But everyone’s body is different, the key is to know each others status. Which includes yourself. Because believe it or not you could be more dangerous to her. I say this because it you have a disease, she is more prone to getting the desease than the average because of the HSV2
